Paragliding World Cup Turkey

This 4th event of the Paragliding World Cup in Erzincan, Turkey was plagued with several days of thunderstorms, and high winds. Two days were completely stopped for weather and two others were stopped during the competition but still counted as valid task.
For the USA, Scotty Marion, out of Draper Utah, finished in 2nd place and took home a Silver Medal. While also still holding 2nd place in the overall, Marion has moved to within 391 points of over taking 1st position in the PWC Championship.

With his eye on the championship, Scotty Marion is scheduled to compete later this month when the competition switches to the far east from September 29th to October 5th, in Korea.

Competition High Lights
Task 1 (Canceled due to weather)
Task 2 (17th overall task of the PWC this year)
Scotty Marion (USA) came in second to Alex Hoffer (Swiss) after a race to goal with only 13 seconds separating the two. Only 3 pilots crossed goal before the task was called for weather. Scotty Marion still holds his #2 ranking in the PWC, right behind Alex Hoffer.
When conditions are stopped for weather after the minimum flight distance has been meet, the competition is still scored and counts as a valid task.
Task 3 (18th overall task)
While today's task was halted for a second straight day due to weather midway through the competition, Scotty Marion (USA) came in 4th today just 33 seconds behind the leaders at goal.
Marion moved into first place in this competition after task 3 while gaining 87 points on Hofer of Switzerland in the year long overall PWC Championship. Marion currently trails Hofer by 457 points in the overall.
A total of 40 out of 91 pilots crossed goal before the competition was called for inclimate weather conditions.
Task 4 (19th overall task)
After the previous 3 days with bad weather halting the competition, task 3 was the best so far.
Marion came in 7 minutes behind the leading gaggle and finished in 24th overall. This dropped Marion back to 2nd in this competition. Still holding onto 2nd in the overall, Marion's gap on the first widened to 536 points.
Cherie Silvera is currently holding onto a strong 5th place in the overall women's standing after finishing in 5th today also.
Task 5
With lack of thermals on the final leg of a 35 mile task, all pilots found themselves sinking before reaching goal. For the USA pilots, Marion landed out at 30 miles, Morgan Hollinsworth at 25 miles, Cherie Silvera at 24 miles, and Grego Lask at 11 miles from launch.
With a 23rd place finish, Scotty Marion slips into 3rd place for this competition. According to PWCA rules, not all tasks will count towards the overall PWCA Championship. This task was chosen as one of the task that will not be applied to the overall so there is no change in the overall results.

Canceled due to strong winds
Task 7 (21st overall task)
This was the final task of the competition
in Turkey. Consistent flying on his Gin Boomerang gave Scotty Marion a 7th place finish on today's task and a 2nd place finish in this competition. After today's task, Marion has moved to within 391 points of first place Alex Hofer in the overall and mathematically has a strong chance to take the championship in Korea at the end of September.
