Four U.S. hang gliding pilots found their way to Mt Beauty Australia to compete in the 2002 Bogong Cup from 1-20-02 to 1-27-02. Paris Williams, the 2001 US Nationals Champion, crossed in 6th place while James Stinnett landed in 9th at the Bogong. Bo Hagewood, the 2000 US Nationals Champion, glided to a 13th overall finish.

Kari Castle, the 2 time Women's World Hang Gliding Champion, finished in 20th on her Aeros Combat II at the Bogong.
