USA takes Gold, Silver, and Bronze in the Hang Gliding World Championship

The 2002 World Hang Gliding Championship was held at Chelan, Washington, a flying site well noted for some of the toughest flying conditions along with some of the most beautiful scenery. This site is also famous for its towering Dust Devils thermals that reach upwards to 3,000 feet. The competition drew top pilots from around the world.
Kari Castle and Claire Vassort, both of the USA, took the individual Gold and Silver medals, respectively, in the women's class I (flex wing) competition. The women's team took the Silver medal overall.
Brian Porter took the individual Bronze on his Swift in the class II (faired riged wings) while assisting the USA team take the Silver medal in this class.
Although there was no individual medalist in the Class V (control bar rigid wing), the USA team did manage a Bronze medal in this class.
