Flytec World Record Encampment
07-11-02
While Zapata is well known as the world capitol when it comes to setting world records for hang gliding and paragliding, its character of hot and dry dog day afternoons was tainted at the 2002 World Record Encampment.
After record setting rains pounded the normally hot and dry thermal producing terrain in southern Texas, much of the 2002 Word Record Encampment was washed out. High waters and cooler than normal temperatures forced pilots into the flight hangers during much of the tournament.
Five pilots managed to set 4 world records this year in comparison to 11 world record set during last year.
World records set during the 2002 World Record Encampment:
Bo Hagewood: June 25, 2002
