This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for southwest Virginia, west
central Virginia and southeast West Virginia.

.DAY ONE...This afternoon and tonight.


There is a risk for excessive rainfall which could lead to flooding
of urban and poor drainage areas today and tonight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday.


Hazardous weather is not expected at this time.

...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS have developed along the I-81 corridor
between wytheville and pulaski continuing through 330 PM EDT...

At 242 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking an area of thunderstorms
with heavy rainfall between Wytheville and Pulaski...moving east at
20 mph. This direction of motion will keep the thunderstorms
anchored along the I-81 corridor for up to an hour.

HAZARD...very heavy rainfall. cloud-to-ground lightning.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Persistent heavy rainfall along the I-81 corridor will lead
to areas of minor flooding and poor visibility.

Locations impacted include...
Pulaski...
Wytheville...
Max Meadows...
Allisonia...
Fort Chiswell...
Draper...
and Grahams Forge.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Motorists in the area, especially Interstate 81 will need to reduce
speed and allow extra distance between them and the vehicle in front
of them. Exit the highway safely at a marked exit and wait until the
storm has passed if necessary.
