This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of Central Kansas,
South Central Kansas and Southeast Kansas.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight


Pockets of areal flooding and river flooding are ongoing over
southeast Kansas, especially along the Neosho and Verdigris Rivers.
See latest flood warnings for additional details.

Severe thunderstorms are expected late this afternoon into the
overnight hours, mainly east of Interstate 135. The strongest
storms will be capable of large hail up to baseball size, damaging
winds up to 70 mph, and a tornado or 2. As the evening progresses
the threats will shift to damaging winds up to 60 mph and heavy
rainfall resulting in additional flooding.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday


Storms will remain in the forecast for late Wednesday afternoon and
evening for locations along and especially west of Interstate 135.
Severe storms will be possible with this activity.

Periodic thunderstorm chances will remain in the forecast for
Thursday through the weekend. Strong to severe thunderstorms are
possible, along with additional heavy rainfall and localized
flooding. Stay tuned, as we continue to refine the forecast the
next few days.

...The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in

Kansas...

Verdigris River at Independence affecting Wilson and Montgomery
Counties.

Verdigris River at Coffeyville affecting Montgomery County.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Do not drive into flooded areas or go around barricades. Nearly two
feet of water will carry most vehicles away. Turn around, don`t
drown.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.

* WHERE...Verdigris River at Independence.

* WHEN...Until late tonight.

* IMPACTS...At 36.0 feet, Some flooding of low lying areas and
bottom land can be expected.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 8:00 AM CDT Tuesday the stage was 34.4 feet.
- Bankfull stage is 30.0 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage
late this afternoon and continue falling to 5.5 feet Sunday
morning.
- Flood stage is 30.0 feet.

MORNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...Portions of South Central and Southeast Kansas, including
the following counties, in South Central Kansas, Butler and
Cowley. In Southeast Kansas, Allen, Chautauqua, Elk, Greenwood,
Labette, Montgomery, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson.

* WHEN...From this evening through Wednesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more
heavy rain.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.

...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 730 PM CDT TUESDAY...


* WHAT...Excessive runoff from Saturday night`s very heavy rainfall
continues to cause flooding problems with some roads still closed
in the warned area.

* WHERE...A portion of Southeast Kansas, including the following
counties, Allen, Neosho, Wilson and Woodson.

* WHEN...Until 730 PM CDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying
and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads
remain closed due to flooding. Streams continue to rise due to
excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are
inundated with water and may not be passable.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 640 PM CDT, Local law enforcement reported on-going
flooding problems in the warned area.
- Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is
expected.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Parsons, Chanute, Iola, Neodesha, Fredonia, Humboldt, Yates
Center, Erie, St. Paul, La Harpe, Gas, Moran, Thayer,
Altoona, Toronto, Buffalo, Neosho Falls, Galesburg, Savonburg
and Elsmore.
