This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of central Iowa.

.DAY ONE...Tonight


A Tornado Watch is in effect for the area. Please visit the
National Weather Service webstie at weather.gov/desmoines for
additional information.

There is also a slight risk for excessive rainfall, mainly over
the western half of Iowa. Heavy rain could lead to new or renewed
river flooding in some areas, or ponding of water in low lying or
poor drainage areas.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday


Thunderstorm chances return to the forecast on Wednesday and
Thursday. There may be a low threat of severe weather on
Wednesday, but this will be better assessed in the coming days.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Spotters may be needed this evening into tonight, especially
across the southwest half of Iowa.

WAPELLO...NORTHEASTERN WAYNE...MAHASKA...APPANOOSE AND JASPER
COUNTIES...

At 145 AM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from near Monroe to Lovilia to Centerville Municipal
Airport, moving east at 50 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include...
Ottumwa, Newton, Oskaloosa, Pella, Grinnell, Knoxville, Centerville,
Albia, Bloomfield, Montezuma, Colfax, Monroe, Pleasantville, Prairie
City, New Sharon, Melcher-Dallas, Eddyville, Ottumwa Industrial
Airport, Lake Sundown, and Rathbun Lake.

This includes Interstate 80 between mile markers 159 and 192.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 300 AM CDT for south central,
central and southeastern Iowa.

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly
from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the
basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 200 AM CDT FOR MARION...

NORTHWESTERN MAHASKA AND SOUTHERN JASPER COUNTIES...

At 137 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located near Elk Rock State Park, or 5 miles northwest of
Knoxville, moving northeast at 40 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage
to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is
likely.

This dangerous storm will be near...
Lake Red Rock and Elk Rock State Park around 145 AM CDT.
Sully around 200 AM CDT.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Elk
Rock State Park, Pella Municipal Airport, Reasnor, Sully, Knoxville
Municipal Airport, and Newton Municipal Airport.

This includes Interstate 80 between mile markers 164 and 172.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a
mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter
and protect yourself from flying debris.
