On Friday, May 2, 2025, a small Cessna 172 aircraft made an emergency landing on the fairway of the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. The plane, which was originally en route to Santa Monica Airport, experienced engine trouble and was forced to land approximately 6 miles north of its intended destination. The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. local time.
Remarkably, all three occupants aboard the aircraft emerged uninjured. The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that there were no injuries reported. Video footage captured by golfers on the course shows the plane descending at a low angle, bouncing off the green and a pathway before coming to a stop upright, mere feet from several golfers.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are currently investigating the incident.
The Riviera Country Club, established in 1926, is a historic golf course that has hosted numerous prestigious tournaments, including the U.S. Open in 1948 and two PGA Championships. It is also slated to host the golf competition for the 2028 Olympic Games.
