This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of Central Kansas,
South Central Kansas and Southeast Kansas.

.DAY ONE...Tonight


Scattered to numerous thunderstorms will impact the region, likely
most numerous this evening generally along and especially southeast
of the Kansas Turnpike. Strong to severe thunderstorms are likely,
with the primary threat being large hail and damaging winds,
although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Additionally, flash flooding is likely this evening for areas
generally along and southeast of the Kansas Turnpike. This will be
due to very high rainfall rates that maybe on the order of 3 inches
per hour. Please refer to the Flash Flood Watch for additional
information.

Widespread river flooding, some of which is significant, will
continue to be a threat as well. Please see the latest River Flood
Warnings for the latest information.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday


Periodic rounds of thunderstorms with heavy rain, flooding, and
severe weather will continue to threaten the area at times through
Tuesday evening. Please continue to monitor later forecasts as we
refine the threat areas for each day.

Significant and high-impact river flooding will continue well into
next week. Please see the latest River Flood Warnings for the
latest information.

Spotter activation is likely this afternoon and evening, mainly
southeast of a line extending from Salina to Lyons.

* Impact...At 29.0 feet...Sandbag or close break in the dike at the
Atchison Topeka and Sante Fe railroad south of town will commence.

* At 1201 AM CDT...National Weather Service meteorologists were an
area of strong winds along the western edge of the light rain and
thunderstorms. This area is moving northeast at 40 mph.

wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph will be possible.

* Locations impacted include...
Arkansas City, Winfield, Rose Hill, Douglass, Udall, Howard, Cedar
Vale, Burden, Moline, Longton, Dexter, Grenola, Atlanta, Geuda

* At 8:46 PM Friday the stage was 16.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by Saturday afternoon and
continue to rise to near 28.8 feet by Monday evening. The river
will fall below flood stage by late Wednesday morning.
* Impact...At 28.0 feet...West 14th Avenue near the fairgrounds,
floods from the river on eastward to the levee.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING...


The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for

* a portion of South Central Kansas, including the following
areas, Butler and Cowley.

* Through Sunday morning.

* Widespread showers and storms are expected through the evening
hours with a brief break possible Saturday morning into the
early afternoon hours. Storm chances will then increase Saturday
night as storms move-in from western Kansas. High rainfall rates
and associated flash flooding will be possible with any of this
activity.

* Rapidly rising water can wash cars away and quickly flood
homes. In addition to the flash flood threat, rivers and
creeks will quickly rise, exacerbating the ongoing flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Remember to turn around, don`t drown. You should monitor later
forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood
warnings be issued.

* At 1025 AM CDT, local law enforcement reported flooding on both
secondary and primary roadways through out the warned area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Wichita, Hutchinson, Derby, Newton, El Dorado, Arkansas City,
Winfield, Andover, Haysville, Parsons, Coffeyville, Independence,
Augusta, Chanute, Wellington, Park City, Valley Center, Bel Aire,
Mulvane and Iola.

Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are possible in the
warned area. Most of this rain is expected develop this afternoon
and into he evening hours in the warned area. Short term rain rates
of 4 to 5 inches are possible causing additional flash flooding.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 135 between Mile Markers 0 and 42.
Interstate 35 between Mile Markers 1 and 115.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
