This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of south central
Arkansas, southwest Arkansas, north central Louisiana, northwest
Louisiana, southeast Oklahoma, east Texas and northeast Texas.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight...


A Heat Advisory is in effect today. Temperatures this afternoon
are expected to climb into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees
across the Four State Region, and when combined with the humidity,
will result in heat indices climbing to between 105 and 110 degrees.
Those that must be outside this afternoon are reminded to wear
lightweight, loose fitting clothing, drink plenty of water, limit
time outdoors, and spend time in air conditioned facilities.
In addition, there will be a chance of afternoon and early evening
showers and thunderstorms. The more favorable area for this
precipitation will be the southern third of Northeast Texas, and
portions of North Central and East Central Louisiana into South
Central Arkansas.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday...


The heat will continue into at least Monday with a Heat Advisory
in effect through 7 pm Tuesday. Otherwise, isolated to scattered
showers and thunderstorms will be possible through much of the
extended period of the forecast with the highest chances across
the eastern half of the Four State Region. Precipitation coverage
may pick up by late in the work week into the weekend due to a
disturbance moving our way from the north and west.

...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT TUESDAY...


* EVENT...An upper level heat ridge will remain in place across
the Southern Plains through Tuesday, resulting in afternoon
temperatures again climbing into the mid 90s to near 100
degrees. Southerly winds will maintain the high humidity through
Tuesday, with resultant heat indices ranging from 105 to 110
degrees. Limited relief from the heat is expected tonight, with
low temperatures only falling briefly into the mid and upper
70s.

* TIMING...Through 7 pm CDT Tuesday.

* IMPACT...High heat index readings will increase the risk of
heat-related illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency, call 9 1 1.
