This hazardous weather outlook is for east central...north
central and northeast Kansas.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and tonight.


Scattered severe thunderstorms will redevelop this afternoon. The
best chance for strong to severe thunderstorms will be across
east central and portions of northeast KS this afternoon and
evening. The primary hazards with any severe thunderstorms will be
large hail, damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall. An isolated
tornado or two is possible south of Interstate 70.

The Flash Flood Watch was expanded to include the entire area,
from this morning through Sunday morning. Flooding is especially
dangerous at night when flood waters are harder to see.

River flooding will also continue this evening and tonight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday.


The threat for strong to severe thunderstorms continues Saturday
through Tuesday, with heavy rainfall and flooding also a hazard
with these storms. Large hail, damaging wind gusts, and tornadoes
are also possible Saturday late afternoon and evening.

River flooding is expected to continue through much of the
week and into the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

* At 8:30 PM Friday the stage was 24.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 25.5 feet by
Saturday evening. The river will fall below flood stage late
Tuesday morning.
* Impact...At 25.5 feet...Highway K 99 on the north bank begins to
flood.

before midnight.

* At 8:23 PM Friday the stage was 10.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 19.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by Saturday evening and continue
to rise to near 19.9 feet by Sunday morning. The river will fall
below flood stage by Sunday afternoon.
* Impact...At 19.5 feet...Prairie Street, north of the bridge, floods.
* Impact...At 19.0 feet...Minor flooding occurs along the river
upstream to Dunlap and downstream to Neosho Rapids.

This hydrologic outlook is based on predicted rainfall and estimated
runoff from earlier rainfall. Crests may vary if actual rainfall or
runoff is greater or less than anticipated.

Latest stage: 5.3 feet at 9 PM Friday
Forecast crest: 19.8 feet Saturday May 25

* Flood Warning for...
Lyon County in east central Kansas...

* Until 315 AM CDT Saturday.

* At 914 PM CDT, local law enforcement reported flooding in central
and southern Lyon County . Up to three inches of rain have already
fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Emporia, Americus, Olpe, Hartford, Neosho Rapids and Reading.

This flood warning replaces the flash flood warning set to expire at
9:15 PM CDT.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 35 between mile markers 128 and 143.
Kansas Turnpike between mile markers 117 and 144.

* At 8:00 PM Friday the stage was 33.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 32.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 36.0 feet by
early Saturday afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage
Sunday before midnight.
* Impact...At 37.0 feet...Major flooding can be expected. Water levels
may reach to 4 feet above the ground floors of structures 2.25
miles west of the gage site from Road A. At half a mile north of
gage, water levels may reach as high as 1/2 the distance to the
electric meters on utility poles.

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING...


The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of central Kansas, east central Kansas, north central
Kansas, and northeast Kansas, including the following areas,
in central Kansas, Dickinson. In east central Kansas,
Anderson, Coffey, Douglas, Franklin, Geary, Lyon, Morris,
Osage, Shawnee, and Wabaunsee. In north central Kansas, Clay,
Cloud, Ottawa, Republic, and Washington. In northeast Kansas,
Brown, Jackson, Jefferson, Marshall, Nemaha, Pottawatomie, and
Riley.

* Through Saturday morning

* Scattered strong thunderstorms are expected late this afternoon
through Tonight. These storms may produce very heavy rainfall
and flash flooding in a short amount of time, over an area that
is already saturated from rainfall earlier this week.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
