This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of southern
Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

There is a small chance of thunderstorms mainly along and north
of Interstate 64 this afternoon. Although an isolated strong to
severe storm is not out of the question, brief heavy rain and
lightning will be the main concern.

With summer like heat and humidity this Memorial Day weekend, be
alert to the effects of the first prolonged exposure to such warmth
this season. Travelers on area waterways, as well as those camping
outdoors should keep posted on the latest weather conditions this
holiday weekend. Plan ahead to seek shelter if thunderstorms

details on area river flooding.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Sunday through Friday

There is a chance of thunderstorms Sunday, then again Tuesday
night through Thursday. While an isolated strong storm capable of
producing gusty winds and hail cannot be ruled out, most storms
will have locally heavy rain and lightning as their primary

...The flood warning continues for the following river in


Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau and Thebes

.Moderate flooding continues along the Mississippi River at Cape
Girardeau and Thebes. Water levels continue to rise and major flooding
is forecast to develop at Cape Giradeau Saturday night and at Thebes
on Tuesday. Crests of 44.0 feet at Cape Girardeau and 42.0 feet at Thebes
are currently expected on Tuesday. Some fluctuations to the forecast
are possible depending on how much rain falls over the Mississippi
River basin over the next week, so check back often for updates.



Never drive cars...trucks or sport utility vehicles through flooded
areas. The water may be too deep to allow safe passage. Never allow
children to play in or near flood waters. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather
Radio or your local media for further statements and possible updated

The Flood Warning continues for
the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau
* until further notice.
* At 8:00 PM Friday the stage was 41.0 feet.
* Flood Stage is 32.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and Major flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 44.0 feet by
Tuesday evening then begin falling.
* Impact...At 43.0 Feet...The flood gate on North Main Street closes.
