This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of eastern and
central Missouri as well as west central and southwest Illinois.

.DAY ONE...Tonight.


Little relief is expected tonight from a prolonged and dangerous hot
and humid period for the Saint Louis metro area and portions of
southern Illinois with a low temperatures in the 70s. A Heat
Advisory continues.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected early this evening
with the potential for gusty winds and localized heavy rainfall out
of the stronger storms.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday.


The dangerously hot and humid weather will continue into early
Thursday evening for the Saint Louis metro area and portions of
southern Illinois with peak heat index values between 100 and 103.
Please refer to the Heat Advisory that is in effect for further
information.

There is a chance for thunderstorms across portions of the area each
day from Thursday through Sunday. A few storms may be severe Thursday
afternoon, with damaging winds the primary threat.

* WHAT...Heat index values up to 103.

* WHERE...In Missouri, Saint Louis MO, Saint Charles MO, Saint
Louis City MO and Jefferson MO Counties. In Illinois,
Washington IL, Saint Clair IL, Marion IL, Monroe IL, Madison
IL and Clinton IL Counties.

* WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses to occur.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.

People in the Saint Louis Metropolitan Area can get information
about cooling centers or energy assistance related to the
excessive heat by calling the United Way of Greater Saint Louis at
800-427-4626, or if calling from a land line phone dial 2-1-1.
You can also call Cool Down Saint Louis at 314-241-7668.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
