Hydrologic Outlook
National Weather Service Chicago IL
106 PM CDT Thu Sep 19 2019 /206 PM EDT Thu Sep 19 2019/

...Heavy rainfall possible this weekend...

A slow-moving frontal system moving into the area by late this
weekend has the potential to produce heavy rainfall across the
area. Rainfall may lead to flooding, especially if occuring in
the Des Plaines, Fox, and Rock River Basins where recent heavy
rainfall has caused elevated water levels.

This flood potential exists from late this weekend through at
least early next week.

Over the last week, 2 to 6 inches of rainfall has occurred across
portions of far northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, with
5 to 10 inches over the last two weeks. This wet weather has
contributed to elevated soil moisture and water levels.

Heavy rainfall is possible late this weekend as a cold front moves
into the area and interacts with moisture from the remnants of
Tropical Storm Imelda, which has recently moved inland over
southeast Texas. One to three inches of rainfall is possible
across portions of the region, but exact location and amounts of
rainfall are uncertain at this time. If heavy rainfall occurs,
rises on area rivers would be possible, including the possibility
of flooding if heavy rainfall occurs in areas with already
elevated water levels.

This outlook means that elevated water levels and potential
impacts are possible, but not yet certain. Persons should closely
monitor forecasts including the possibility of flood watches,
warnings, and advisories.
