This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of north central
Illinois...northwest Illinois...west central Illinois...east
central Iowa...northeast Iowa...southeast Iowa and northeast
Missouri.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT


A flash flood watch is in effect for counties in the U.S. highway
20 corridor along with Jackson county, Iowa and Carroll county
Illinois.

Thunderstorms with heavy rain will be seen today especially north
of an Vinton, Iowa to Milledgeville, Illinois line. Thunderstorms
are also possible south of U.S. highway 30 but should not be as
widespread as north of highway 30.

Additional showers and thunderstorms are expected tonight. The
primary risks are lightning and heavy rainfall.

Area rivers are experiencing flooding. Please see the
latest Flood Statements and Flood Warnings for details.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY


There is a low chance for thunderstorms on Friday. The primary
threats are lightning and heavy downpours. Afternoon peak heat
indices in the lower 90s are anticipated south of highway 30.

Rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected Saturday and
Sunday with 1 to 3 inches of rain possible over parts of the
area. Isolated higher amounts are possible along and south of
Interstate 80. The most likely period for heavy rain is from
Saturday evening into Sunday afternoon. The primary risk is for
localized flash flooding.

In addition to the flood threat, the Storm Prediction Center has
a slight risk for severe storms west of a line from Marengo, Iowa
to Memphis, Missouri and a marginal risk to the east.


.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Spotter activation is not anticipated today or tonight. Rainfall
amounts over 1 inch will be appreciated.

.A saturated atmosphere with a slow moving front approaching in
combination with excessively moist soils will bring the risk of
flash flooding today. There is a potential for storms to move
repeatedly over the same area and produce excessive rainfall.
Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible.

AFTERNOON...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* Portions of northwest Illinois and northeast Iowa, including
the following areas, in northwest Illinois, Jo Daviess and
Stephenson. In northeast Iowa, Dubuque.

* Until 4 PM CDT this afternoon

* Slow moving storms producing rainfall of 1 to 2 inches per
hour over very moist ground.

* There is a potential for storms to redevelop and move over the
same areas producing excessive rainfall.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that flash flooding is possible.
Monitor forecasts and take action if flash flood warnings are
issued or flash flooding develops.

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 330 PM CDT FOR JO

DAVIESS AND STEPHENSON COUNTIES...

At 155 PM CDT, law enforcement reported North Holland Road was close
due to flooding on the west fork of the Apple river.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Freeport, Galena, Lena, Stockton, Warren, Pearl City, Elizabeth,
Cedarville, Davis, Woodbine, Dakota, Scales Mound, Apple River,
Winslow, Rock City, Ridott, Council Hill, Nora, Schapville and Buena
Vista.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

River forecasts include past precipitation and forecast rainfall for
the next 24 hours.

The Pecatonica River at Freeport.
* Until Sunday evening.
* At 9:30 AM Thursday the stage was 13.7 feet and steady.
* Flood stage is 13.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring.
* Forecast, Rise to 13.8 feet today. Fall below flood stage Sunday
evening.
* Impact, At 13.0 feet, Flood Stage. Water affects low lying
sections of Freeport mainly east of the Pecatonica River.
